Song of the Week: Taste of Eternity, by Bellarive

Song of the Week: Taste of Eternity, by Bellarivefeatured

Do you ever have those mornings where you wake up and realize you have a million things to do? And the chances of getting them done before the looming deadline are slim to none? That’s me today.

Today, I am leaning into the Holy Spirit, trusting Him to keep me in a place of rest.

In a perfect world, I would check all the things I think need to be done off my to-do list before my date with my husband happens at 5:00. {brainstorming}

  • The laundry would all be washed, dried, and folded (including the “pile” on the couch).
  • The kitchen would be workably clean.
  • The toys and other random items in the living room would be picked up.
  • The bedrooms would be straightened, too, and every room would be vacuumed.
  • My pre-lunch Algebra tutoring session with my cousin would fit right into my daily routine without a hiccup, and my post-lunch hair appointment would not cause me to leave other things undone.
  • I would find the lost external hard drive that houses ALL of the precious pictures of my babies.
  • I would manage to at least do reading drills and math with Lily, and read to all of my children before the morning ends.
  • My girls (with my direction of course) would make Valentine’s cards for their grandparents.
  • I would make sure appropriate Valentine’s cards or gifts are bought for each close relative.

I think that’s it. Ahhhh.

Now for the reality check. Let’s pare down this to-do list to one that’s realistic.

Who wants to live in a perfect world anyway? I’d much rather live in a graceful world. I’ll write down a to-do list with what looks like a manageable number of things, and I’ll still be okay if they don’t all get done. In fact, I know they won’t.

This reminds me of what Jesus said to Martha in Luke 10:41-42 , “…Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Mary had chosen to sit at Jesus feet in a posture of rest, and just be with Him.

That ONE thing is needed today, and it will not be taken away from me. By His grace, I know He will keep me in a place of rest. And if I forget for a minute, Holy Spirit will remind me. And even if the whole to-do list doesn’t get checked off, that ONE necessary thing will be done. My heart will rest at His feet even while I work.
