New Places in Praise :: Week 8 :: Lead a Great Procession! (What is that?)featured

Hello, graceful friend! It’s been a while! I’ve missed talking with you, and I’m so glad to be back.  Vacation has been nice, though. We need a break sometimes from our daily routines to get refreshed and inspired (coming back better than ever!), but more on that later. (In a post to come.)11187103_1443474285947599_975731478_n

Today it’s time for New Places in Praise, and we’re going to do some processional worship this week. Some churches do procession as a part of their service on a regular basis.  Mine doesn’t, but it’s in the Bible, so it’s bound to be fun.  (Actually, we did some at church the other day spontaneously, and it was really powerful!)

So, how in the world does one do processional worship? It can probably look many different ways, but the way we’re going to do it, to put it simply–just…

Ever done it before? I want you to see that praise can be interwoven into the fabric of your day, in all the little seams and corners, any time or any place.  It doesn’t have to be loud and showy (unless you are just feelin’ it!). It can be quiet if you want. He sees it all the same, and He loves it.

You walk all the time, right?  You walk at the grocery store or at the mall. You walk to the mailbox. You walk around the house picking up the toys (If you’re like me, that is the walk that never ends.). You take walks outside with baby or with your little kids.

…I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration! Psalm 42:4b

This week, do something new. Do something different–on purpose. Praise while you walk! Be intentional about it at first, and it may just become a part of how you do life.

Because God is always there, and He loves spending time with you! Praise is an easy way to spend time with God. He’s right there with you (and in you), and when you praise and thank Him, it opens you up to recognize that He’s there. And a life lived with the realization that He’s there is a life of peace.  A life of joy!

Imagine the way the atmosphere of your home might be if you walked around praising God as you did what you do.  Your home would become a beacon of hope, filled with the powerful peace of God.  A house filled with the fragrance of His presence is a home I want to live in. As Proverbs 14:1 says, a wise woman builds her house. You can literally build a place with your praise for your family to dwell in safety.

Week Eight Challenges:

Challenge #1: Take a praise walk on purpose. You can walk around your house, around your yard, or around your neighborhood. Just sing praise songs to God as you walk. Give Him thanks for specific good things He has given you and done for you.  He will enjoy spending time with you as you walk together!

Challenge #2 (for moms with kids): Take a praise walk with your kids. You don’t even have to call it that.  Do you take walks with your kids? The next time you go on a walk, just tell them that you all are going to sing some songs to Jesus as you walk.  They will probably love it! Don’t expect it to be super spiritual. Just have fun! (As C.S. Lewis says, “Joy is the serious business of heaven.”)

Week Eight Activation Prayer: God, as we literally walk with you and sing, let it be symbolic of our lives. Lives lived in Your presence. Lives lived from a place of praise. Fill our hearts with your song, and let us sing for all the earth to hear! Let our lives be a testimony of your greatness and your love. We love you, God!
