Grace–It’s Good News! #2

Grace–It’s Good News! #2featured

So, the other morning as I was reading the Bible (it’s a really good book!) and thinking about grace, I saw all kinds of wonderful things.  So many things that I wrote two blog posts about them.  This post is Part 2 of Grace–It’s Good News! You can read part one here.

So, here we go.  Get ready to dive off the waterfall of grace!

**************

Ever wondered how you can get more peace in your life?  Or maybe it’s joy that you want more of.  Oh I know, patience–you want to be more patient.

Wow!  Are there ever so many character traits that I wish I could snap my fingers and attain through self-discipline and hard work!  Or then again, I’m pretty sure I’d fail if it were all up to me.

Well, here’s today’s good news. All those super-mom traits are attained through resting in His GRACE.16746_amazing_grace

According to Colossians 1:5-6, the truth about grace brings forth fruit in a believer’s life.  (I bet you know what that fruit is! Think fruit of the Spirit. But we’ll get to that in a second…)

Colossians 1:6 [NLT] This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.

Let’s get a mental picture here–Imagine with me.  Imagine a big, beautiful tree, full of fruit.  You are a branch on this tree–God’s family tree (remember that from part 1?).

You remain there by resting in His grace and receiving what He did perfectly on your behalf.  As you do, fruit begins to grow on you!

What is this fruit?  What does it look like and taste like?

One fruit is the JOY of the Lord (yum!).

I can also see perfect LOVE that gets rid of every fear.

What’s this one?  PEACE that is beyond your understanding.

Fruit is becoming abundant now!  I see that PATIENCE is growing, too.  KINDNESS is developing.  GOODNESS grows as you rest in Your Father’s goodness and love. FAITHFULNESS is becoming evident in every relationship and area of your life.  GENTLENESS is now part of your personality. SELF-CONTROL is growing as well as you abide in Him by grace.

You see, you are a branch of His family tree.  It’s not up to you to grow the fruit.  Your only job is to rest in the tree.  Just be a branch.  Rest in His grace, knowing that as you do, He will fill you with abundant fruit.

Remember (from part 1), trying to work for His good favor in your own strength actually disqualifies you from receiving it!  29132_TrustSo, believe today that He loves you and He has done the work of salvation for you!  Let yourself off the hook.  Trust in Him, mama! And let His grace do the work.

Galatians 5:22-23 [NLT] But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…

These fruits of the Spirit are cultivated in your life by resting in His grace.  You cannot work to attain them.  So, if you’ve tried and tried to become more patient, peaceful, joyful, self-controlled, and always seem to come up short, well just give up trying!  No more striving. You are not responsible for forming it.  He is.

Give up trying to form that fruit on your own, and receive His grace.  Believe in the good news that His grace is enough!  Rest in that reality.  Come back to it daily.  As you let go of trying so hard and truly rest in His loving arms, that’s when you will begin to see real fruit.

And that’s good news.
