Five Minute Friday: Liftfeatured

Share

I’m sitting here at my 27 week doctors appointment typing this — you know, that appointment where you drink the yucky orange drink and they do a blood sugar test. ūüôā I’m hungry and uncaffeinated (or am I decaffeinated??) because I wasn’t allowed to eat or drink anything! No coffee! Now I know that it can be done, but mamas! I would not recommend it. {writer laughs deliriously to herself while yawning}

This week’s Five Minute Friday prompt is “Lift.” Visit other lovely FMF posts at KateMotaung.com where we join up from all over to write for five minutes on a one-word prompt.

Lift

It’s getting harder and harder to pick up my toddler now that my belly is getting big. ¬†I’m officially in my third trimester now, with 13 weeks left to go. Even if I¬†can pick him up, I try to keep it at a minimum just to take it easy! ¬†Last pregnancy I ended up with sprained ribs (ouch! SO painful for two months), so I’m more than willing to listen to my body this time. ¬†If my body is saying take it easy, I’m gonna try to listen.

Kids love to be lifted up and held by their moms and dads.  I was thinking about the different reasons why last night.

One reason our kids like to be lifted up is¬†to see better. ¬†Isaac can’t see the snacks on the upper shelves of the pantry on his own, but if I hold him in my arms, he can see what there is to choose from. ¬†Just like my son can see better when I hold him, we can see more clearly when we see things from God’s¬†perspective. When we just relax and let Him lift us up, we¬†see things we would have missed otherwise.

“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.” – Ephesians 2:6 NLT

We are seated in heavenly places every moment of every day because of what Christ accomplished for us on the cross! ¬†Praise the Lord! ¬†…It’s just that sometimes we forget.¬†We can lean into Him through prayer, and that often helps us to see things from His perspective. ¬†And you don’t have to be alone to talk with Him, mama!

Another reason our kids like to be held is just for comfort. All¬†of our kids still want to be held and carried places, even though they are more than capable of getting there on their own. ¬†The older ones can even pull up a chair to reach high places, but there is something about being held that is so comforting to them. ¬†It makes them feel safe to be lifted up in Mommy or Daddy’s arms.

But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. – John 14:26 KJV

Just like that, God lifts us up and holds us close when we need comfort. The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter for good reason, and He knows how to lift¬†your spirits when you are down and discouraged. Just like a hug from mommy or daddy can make everything better¬†for a child, just one big hug from your Daddy God can let you know everything is right with the world. When we worship Him, we often experience His embrace in a tangible way. ¬†His presence surrounds us, the Holy Spirit wraps us in the Father’s love, and we get to enjoy the communion we were created for.
