Don’t Know What to Wear? Use Pinterest to Helpfeatured

Sometimes I feel as far from the fashion world as a south-pole penguin is from New York City.  Two *small* problems come to mind as I think about why I feel this way. Problem #1: I don’t just know what’s in style anymore.  And Problem #2: My clothes budget is extremely limited.  Let me enlighten you.

Problem #1: I don’t just know what’s in style anymore.

In my world, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, reading drills, school glue, and {yes, still} diapers take center stage.  I am disconnected from knowing what’s in style, yet I still desire to look and feel my best.

For me, part of feeling great about how I look is knowing current fashion trends and implementing them. It’s fun to me!   But most of the time now, I just don’t know.

Problem #2: My clothes budget is extremely limited.

B.K. (before kids), and let’s go back even further… before marriage, I was a single woman with a career job.  I could spend a pretty good bit on clothes from the nicest stores, and I could afford it!

Now that I have happily traded the single life for my graceful life as a wife and mom, I don’t spend a whole lot of money on my own clothes.  A minimal amount, really.  There are so many more important things to invest my money in!

Quick and Easy Solution: Pinterest

I have found a quick and easy solution to my fashion dilemma.  I use Pinterest to see what items to wear together.  For example, the other day I found a black and white striped dress for a little less than three dollars. Yes, please!  I bought it without hesitation.  But then…

I didn’t really know what to wear with it.  Black boots? Mary Janes? Accessories?  I heard a friend of mine say that she had used Pinterest for fashion inspiration, so I thought I’d give it a try.  It worked great!

I typed “black and white striped dress” into the search box at the top. I saw lots of ideas, but I needed to refine them because the weather had begun to get cooler.

So I clicked on “Fall” to refine my search.  I noticed a lot of pictures where girls were wearing cardigans with their dresses.  Yep, I have a cardigan.

Hmm… What kind of boots should I wear? I have black ones and brown ones that I got for Christmas a couple of years ago.  I deselected “Fall” and clicked on “With Boots” and found that the vast majority of girls were wearing {who knew???} brown boots with their black and white striped dresses.

So, I was set.  I wore my new black and white striped dress with my aqua blue Old Navy cardigan, my brown boots, and a pearl necklace that was my own added touch. Fashion success!

And I didn’t have to break the bank to do it.  I intentionally looked on Pinterest for things I already owned to put together my outfit.

Since that day I have used this strategy a couple of more times to make fashion decisions.  It is a quick and easy way to know how to put together the items I already have to make an in-style outfit.

When in doubt, ask Pinterest! 🙂
