Don’t Give Up On Your Dreams Just Yet, Mama (This Is Only a Test)

Don’t Give Up On Your Dreams Just Yet, Mama (This Is Only a Test)featured

The heart of the dreamer. It is a vast space full of uncertainty, full of wonder, full of hope.  To dream with God (even if you don’t realize you are dreaming with Him) is one of the distinct privileges of being human. To know a God that sees the end from the beginning and then lets you in on His secrets—that is the beauty of living this life.a single dream Quote pinterest

He plants dreams withing the hearts of His daughters. Dreams that He dreamed long ago are woven into the fabric of who you are.

That longing in your chest. That something drawing your heart to a place yet unknown. That dream that won’t let you settle for the mundane and just live your life in mediocrity.

In the trenches of motherhood, it’s easy to lose sight of dreams you once held onto so tightly. Motherhood is all encompassing. It has a way of stripping from you all your selfish perspectives and bidding you to give your life for another—your child.

For a time you give up sleep, comfort, and the ability to do what you want to.  I want you to imagine that you are looking at the face of Jesus. He is smiling at you, and His eyes are full of gentle love.  Look into His eyes. “I see you.” He says.  “YOU are still in there.”

My big-dreaming friend, when you traded your independence for your mommy-role, you didn’t lose any ground. On the contrary. You’re only getting closer to your destiny.

David writes this about the life of Joseph:

Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character. -Psalm 105:19

This is your testing ground. Enjoy this time with your children, and don’t fret about those dreams that seem so far off now.  Rest in the truth that God is using this time of motherhood to test your character. And the good thing is, He’s not trying to give you a test that is too hard to pass. He’ll actually give you the answers to the test! It’s not cheating when the teacher lives in your heart, eh? Just trust Him, and let Him work His wonders on you. Let Him fine tune your dreaming heart.

Through Christ’s work of grace on the cross you are already completely perfect. He did it all! And day by day as you trust in Him, you will look more and more like the perfect daughter He already knows that you are.

What dreams have you put on the shelf?  Let God lift you up there (the shelf is pretty high and dusty) so you can look around. What dream did you dream with Him long ago that seems so distant now? I want you to see God take that dream (you may not even remember yet what it is exactly…) and put it back in your heart.  He will keep it safe.  You can trust Him. It’s you and Him together forever, mama.

Maybe you’ve never been a dreamer. Well, in that case, I say, “Dream, sister!” God has great plans for you. You come from His DNA, made in His image, and you can change the world around you.  Just ask Him, and He will let you in on His secrets. He will give you His dreams and you will bring heaven to earth.

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even through you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold–though your faith is far more precious than mere gold… Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. -1 Peter 1:6-8
