Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – John 8:31-32
Graceful friend, I find this passage fascinating. Jesus offers us a clear picture of the path to true freedom: abiding in His word.
What are the things that hold us captive? Well, anything that doesn’t come from a place of our trusting in Him. We can be held captive by fear, doubt, hopelessness, anger… But Jesus offers us a life of freedom where we can be transformed by His perfect love, unbelievable peace, amazing hope, and abundant joy.
His word is the key that unlocks the door of our transformation. Every word He speaks is life and light to the weary soul. Did you know that He can speak to you? Oh He can, and He will.
One way He speaks is through the Bible. As you sit down and take time to read the Bible, let the Holy Spirit bring it to life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, and he can make the truth jump off the pages of your Bible like never before. Are you hungry for that? Just ask Him and He will do it for you. His words bring transformation.
What does it mean to abide? Well, the word abide can mean to remain, to tarry, and not to depart. It can also mean to be held or kept. It can also mean to wait for. When Holy Spirit shows you a truth, remind yourself of it often. Also, ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of it as well and trust that He will do that. Continue to dwell in that truth He has shown you and let that truth transform the way you think. Let God hold you in His arms of love, pouring that truth over you until it becomes a part of who you are. Wait patiently for His truth to bring freedom, rejoicing in what He is doing in your life while trusting that there is even more in store!
Are there areas of your life where you feel trapped? Do you long to experience more freedom in your real life than ever before? Trust in the power of His word to transform and renew your mind. When He makes the words of the Bible come to life for you, His reality becomes your reality.
What? You don’t have much time for studying the Bible, graceful mama? I don’t either. Rest in Him and trust that He’s got this. Keep in mind that…
- The little things can make a big difference. You can write Bible verses on notecards and put them around your house, listen to encouraging podcasts, and listen to worship music as you go through your day.
- God can speak to you anytime, reminding you of His word and His promises even when you’re busy doing other things.
It is His pleasure to reveal His word to you and see you set free from everything that has held you back. Rejoice in the truth He has revealed to you thus far, and continue to hope in Him, knowing that there is more to discover! You are beautiful, mama, and He is holding you in His love.
